History of the South County Concert Association

Founded in 1975, community members wanted to bring a variety of fine music to South Anne Arundel County.  It all started by presenting 4 concerts, 45 years ago, which included Jerome Hines and the Norman Luboff Choir.

From the beginning, the SCCA has had a volunteer Board of Directors that selects a variety of programs that includes vocalists, instrumentalists and dance groups.

Our concerts have always been held at Southern High School on Route 2 in Harwood, Maryland.

Initially, SCCA had an agent in New York City for many years. We later began a relationship with Live-On-Stage located in Nashville, Tennessee, which presents 30 or more performers in an annual showcase for concert associations to preview and evaluate.

Past performers have included: Roger Wagner Chorale, Tambouritzan Dancers, The New Christy Minstrels, The Diamonds, Simply Sinatra, Benny Goodman Orchestra and Ballet Florida of Palm Beach.

Local Groups have included: Annapolis Symphony, Chesapeake Youth Orchestra, Annapolis Chorale, Pianists Thomas Pandolfi and Brian Ganz, and the Capital Steps.

Additionally, we began a reciprocity agreement in 1996 with Anne Arundel Community Concert Association, allowing subscribers to attend both concert series.
